According to Malaysia Airlines, the service also allows passengers to send and receive text messages and they can send and receive e-mails by using their Blackberry type of devices.

Customers can safely use their mobile phone without affecting the aircraft systems and ground telecommunication networks while traveling, the statement from Malaysia Airline says.

Currently the service is available on a single Boeing 777-200 aircraft that goes to some selected European, Asian and Australian destination on different days.

Malaysia Airlines’ Chief executive Idris Jala said that if the system proved successful, it would be installed on all wide-bodied aircraft of the Malaysia Airlines by next year.
